Emergency Preparedness

Toolbox for developing an Emergency Operation Plan for the Diocese of Southern Ohio

There are two versions of the Template for Emergency Preparedness document available for download. One is a traditional Microsoft Word document, the other is an interactive PDF. Although both versions contain identical information, the interactive PDF is in many ways easier to use. It is indexed similar to a website in that you can click on topics in the index and be taken quickly to the correct section, click on the “Home” button on the bottom of the page, and you’ll go back to the index.

How to use and disseminate the interactive PDF:

  1. Download the interactive pdf here: Template for Emergency Preparedness
  2. Fill out customizable areas for information pertinent to your situation. The customizable areas are shown as blue boxes.
  3. Save the PDF with the customizable parts filled in.
  4. Upload to Dropbox or some other document sharing site.
  5. Share Dropbox (or other) link with vestry, staff members, and any other pertinent people.
  6. Update PDF as needed and remind people to access the updated version.

E-learning

Recent national and international tragedies show us that the risk is real, an active shooter incident can happen in any place at any time.  Although most people think of churches as places of contemplation and prayer, churches have not been immune from such incidents.  Preparedness and awareness will help us keep everyone safe.

A series of four video lessons on Active Shooter Training are now available in our diocesan learning portal. Click here to get started. (Note: You will be required to create an account in the learning portal to access these videos.)

In-person training

A comprehensive, all-day church security training, presented by Ohio Crime Prevention Association (OCPA) will be held in three different locations around the diocese beginning in September. The three dates/locations are:

Thursday, September 27 at Procter Center
Saturday, October 13 at St. Andrew’s, Pickerington
Saturday, November 10 at St. Anne’s, West Chester

The times for all three trainings are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn more and register at links above

The recent active shooter incident in downtown Cincinnati is a painful reminder of how seriously we all need to take potential risks. The $40 cost per person for this full-day training (plus lunch) is being completely underwritten by Bishop Breidenthal.

If you have any further questions, please contact Carine DeLange at cdelange@nulldiosohio.org or 800.582.1712 ext. 108.

Note: You can do online training now in the diocesan learning portal. Click here to get started.
