This past weekend Turner Construction Company, commissioned by the Children’s Law Center, began work on the construction of a full-sized replica of a solitary confinement cell. “The Box” will be presented for the first time as an interactive exhibit at the Ohio State Bar Association Convention, which will take place from April 27 through April 29. The exhibit is intended to raise awareness about the use of solitary confinement in youth facilities in Ohio and to help participants develop a deeper understanding of the experience of isolation.
The debut of The Box at the convention will mark approximately one year since the Stop Solitary for Ohio’s Youth Campaign was launched. Since that time, the campaign continues to garner support and there will be a complementary campaign starting in April on the national level. This is an exciting time to take on this issue for the betterment and well-being of Ohio’s youth. Keep an eye out for upcoming Stop Solitary for Ohio’s Youth events and to discover where The Box will be presented next!
