Who We Are

The Diocese of Southern Ohio comprises 71 churches with more than 15,000 members in Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, and in farm towns, county seats and suburban centers in 40 counties across the southern half of the state. Our bishop is the Rt. Rev. Kristin Uffelman White.

We are committed to spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ through lively and enriching worship, faithful and challenging preaching and service to all people, especially those in greatest need. We believe God is calling our diocese to work on behalf of the poor and the marginalized, strive for racial justice and racial healing, and care for God’s magnificent creation.

Our churches are open to all comers, and we extend a particular welcome to those who may have experienced harm and rejection in other churches and denominations, this includes LGBTQIA+ people, racial and ethnic minorities, and those who come to us with challenging questions about the mysteries of faith.

We are devoted to creating a beloved community in which we are all invited to grow together as people who love God and love the God we see in everyone and in everything. We pursue this work in numerous ways, including the Procter Center, our camp and conference center;  Episcopal Community Ministries, which provides grants for parish-based projects that respond to issues of education, health, hunger and homelessness, and the work of our vital congregations; and the ministries of congregations large and small, that minister to the needs of God’s people in their unique contexts.

The diocese was founded in 1875 when the Diocese of Ohio split into two dioceses, and Thomas A. Jagger became the first bishop of Southern Ohio. The diocesan offices and Christ Church Cathedral are located in downtown Cincinnati.
