SUMMARY:National Acolyte Festival at Washington National Cathedral
DESCRIPTION:Join acolytes\, servers\, and vergers from near and far on Saturday\, October 12\, for the Cathedral’s annual day of celebration\, fellowship and learning. \nThe day begins as participants join in the longest and most colorful procession imaginable—the Grandest of Processions—as we prepare to gather around Christ’s table for a festival Holy Eucharist. \nFollowing the service\, participants are invited to spend the afternoon exploring the Cathedral and joining a variety of workshops. Perfect your thurible techniques\, help build the LEGO Cathedral create a liturgical streamer\, and take a look at Cathedral treasures. \nSpecialty tours\, including a tower climb\, are also available on Friday and Saturday with an additional fee (pre-purchase recommended). \nLunch is available for pre-purchase (by October 4) or you are welcome to bring your own. \nThe festival is a time-honored tradition for many congregations\, and we are eager for your return this fall as we also welcome those making their first pilgrimage to the Cathedral. \nLearn more and register at https://cathedral.org/worship/acolyte-festival/.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Lay Preaching Program
DESCRIPTION:The Lay Preacher Training Program will run from Fall 2024 through September 2025\, with monthly sessions taking place on Zoom and in-person. An introduction to the program will be held on Saturday\, October 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Procter Center. There is no cost to attend. Register here. \nOur training curriculum is a new offering of the Episcopal Preaching Foundation\, offering comprehensive and in-depth training in the theory and practice of preaching to form effective\, confident\, and passionate licensed lay preachers for our church. The course includes regular study of scripture and theology\, exegesis strategies\, and practical homiletics. The cornerstone of the program is preaching feedback\, both to peers within the cohort and regularly\, back in your home congregation. \nThe specific dates and locations (Zoom or in-person) will be determined according to the group’s availability and needs. Participants should expect to meet about twice monthly\, either in-person or on Zoom. \nThe cost to participate in the year-long program is $500/person. Applications are open now and will remain open after the October 12 introduction session.
