SUMMARY:Sacred Decision Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:On November 7-8 Marcia Patton and Nora Percival will present a two day workshop on consensus decision-making at St. Stephen’s\, Columbus.\n\nMarcia and Nora are the authors of Sacred Decision Making: Consensus in Faith Communities. Consensus decision-making in a church setting promotes inclusivity\, is more egalitarian and less patriarchal than other decision-making models\, encourages a collaborative spirit\, fosters the emergence of unanticipated solutions\, offers an alternative to avoiding issues for fear of stirring up trouble\, demonstrates the belief that everyone’s voice is important\, and shows that the people in the room are more important than the decision in question. It embodies the belief that how we work together is as important as what we do and it clearly invites God into the process. Throughout the training Patton and Percival will provide real-life examples\, planning and meeting ideas\, and essential steps to develop a consensus decision-making model. This training is for anyone who wants to explore a method of decision-making that can truly be considered a “kingdom-practice.”\n\nThe workshop will take place at Saint Stephen’s (30 W. Woodruff Avenue). The Friday evening portion will run from 7:00 – 8:30 PM\, and the Saturday session will run from 9-4 with a break for lunch. Attendees are expected to attend both sessions. Hosted at St. Andrews Episcopal Church (1809 Rutland Ave.)\, the morning will begin at 9:30 am with coffee\, pastries\, and fellowship\, followed by a one-hour program featuring: \n\nFr. Christopher Slane – Overview of Pauli Murray’s life and work\nDavid Boyles – Chair of the Cincinnati Bar Association’s LGBTQ+  Interest Group\nThe Rev. Lesley Jones and the Rev. Derek Terry – Personal reflections on Pauli Murray from Black\, queer\, and ministerial perspectives\nA sneak peek performance from Sharisse Vernelle Santos\, soloist featured in the afternoon concert\n\nEvent Schedule – “Pastries with Pauli”\n9:30 – 10:00 AM – Gathering with Lite Bites and Beverages\n10:00 – 11:00 AM – Program of talks and music \nThe symposium serves as a prelude to the 4 pm concert\, “Rebel With a Cause: Sincerely Yours\, Pauli Murray”\, presented at House of Joy Christian Ministries (3220 Central Parkway). This powerful musical portrait\, composed by Steve Milloy and performed by the World House Choir\, brings Murray’s words and spirit to life through chorus\, soloists\, narrator\, and instrumental ensemble.
