It is built around the seven Great “O” Antiphons that were traditionally sung at Vespers on the seven days prior to Christmas and eventually became the seven stanzas of the familiar Advent hymn “O Come\, O Come\, Emmanuel.” During the service\, music\, Scripture readings\, and prayers invite us to reflect on each of the antiphons. Seven gorgeous banners bearing the “O” Antiphon symbols\, each carried in procession while its corresponding antiphon is sung\, make this a visually as well as musically rich experience. Music sung by the choir will include: Let My Prayer Come Up as the Incense (Peter Hallock)\, The Great “O Antiphons” (Mode 2 plainchant and Peter Hallock)\, The Doctrine of Wisdom (William Mathias)\, Confortamini (Orlando di Lasso)\, A Tender Shoot (Kerensa Briggs)\, Hosanna to the Son of David (Thomas Weelkes)\, Infinite Light (arr. Transformations CDC will sponsor a celebration of Las Posadas on Saturday\, December 16 at 6 p.m. in the Westmont neighborhood in Cincinnati. Many residents of Westmont have made similar journeys\, so it is especially poignant for them. \nCarrying candles\, we will relive meeting the gruff\, then welcoming\, innkeeper\, sing traditional (bilingual) songs and carols\, and enjoy hot food and drink. Each child will receive a stuffed animal. \nThe event will be held in the pocket park between 1915 and 1917 Westmont Lane.

DESCRIPTION:The Christ Church Cathedral choir will perform at Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday\, December 3 at 5 p.m. \nThis beautiful service is a wonderful way to begin the season of waiting for Christ’s birth. It is built around the seven Great “O” Antiphons that were traditionally sung at Vespers on the seven days prior to Christmas and eventually became the seven stanzas of the familiar Advent hymn “O Come\, O Come\, Emmanuel.” During the service\, music\, Scripture readings\, and prayers invite us to reflect on each of the antiphons. Seven gorgeous banners bearing the “O” Antiphon symbols\, each carried in procession while its corresponding antiphon is sung\, make this a visually as well as musically rich experience. Music sung by the choir will include: O Sapientia (Ramsey)\, O Lord\, How Shall I Meet You (Casurella)\, Es ist ein Ros’ entsprungen (Cashmore)\, Matins Responsory (Fishell)\, O Thou the Central Orb (Wood)\, Rorate coeli (Rheinberger)\, and There Is No Rose (McDowall). \nThe service is preceded by an organ recital  (4:30 p.m.) featuring cathedral organist Stephan Casurella. \nIncense will be used at this service.
