DESCRIPTION:Christ Church Cathedral presents a concert to mark the 30th anniversary of the AIDS Quilt Songbook’s publishing\, with selections from the original 1993 collection and other later additions\, featuring Stacey Sands and Tess Klibanoff (mezzo-sopranos)\, Henry Benson (tenor)\, and Seth Kershisnik (bass-baritone). \nAs an in memorium of those lost to HIV/AIDS\, Mitchell Sturges (Tenor) will give the Christ Church premiere of Clint Borzoni’s moving & intimate Requiem Fragments with Sara Cahall (piano) and Molly Jones Castrucci (cello). A powerful new work for voice\, cello\, and piano\, it reimagines the Requiem liturgy using texts from the Book of Psalms and poetry of Walt Whitman. This year’s theme focuses on Creation Care and Environmental Justice. The weekend will include a workshop on Saturday\, October 7\, led by Ashley Hubbard; and a Festival Eucharist at 10 a.m. on Sunday\, October 8 with Indigenous music including native drum and flute. Events include storytelling\, conversation\, film\, art\, and music performed by folk and orchestra musicians. \n \nSpecifically\, we hope you can join us at ARCO (3301 Price Ave\, Cincinnati\, OH 45205) in Price Hill on Sunday October\, 22 at 2 p.m. for a storytelling/art event. The event is free but tickets should be reserved online in advance here. Refreshments will be served\, and there will be an exhibition of community partners serving immigrants and refugees.\n \nAnother highlight of the festival will be the final concert on Wednesday\, October 25 at 7 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral. This finale of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra’s We Are One Festival: Asylum\, features Coro Volante and Take What You Need Community Chorus under the direction of Daniel Parsley. Events include storytelling\, conversation\, film\, art\, and music performed by folk and orchestra musicians. \n \nSpecifically\, we hope you can join us at ARCO (3301 Price Ave\, Cincinnati\, OH 45205) in Price Hill on Sunday October\, 22 at 2 p.m. for a storytelling/art event. The event is free but tickets should be reserved online in advance here. Refreshments will be served\, and there will be an exhibition of community partners serving immigrants and refugees.\n \nAnother highlight of the festival will be the final concert on Wednesday\, October 25 at 7 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral. This finale of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra’s We Are One Festival: Asylum\, features Coro Volante and Take What You Need Community Chorus under the direction of Daniel Parsley. The program\, which includes works by Saunder Choi\, James MacMillan\, Gabriela Lena Frank\, Judith Shatin\, Caroline Shaw\, and Reena Esmail\, expresses a defeat of repression\, a call toward justice for immigrants and refugees\, and an open invitation to a better society. DESCRIPTION:The Christ Church Cathedral choir will perform at Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday\, December 3 at 5 p.m. \nThis beautiful service is a wonderful way to begin the season of waiting for Christ’s birth. It is built around the seven Great “O” Antiphons that were traditionally sung at Vespers on the seven days prior to Christmas and eventually became the seven stanzas of the familiar Advent hymn “O Come\, O Come\, Emmanuel.” During the service\, music\, Scripture readings\, and prayers invite us to reflect on each of the antiphons. Seven gorgeous banners bearing the “O” Antiphon symbols\, each carried in procession while its corresponding antiphon is sung\, make this a visually as well as musically rich experience. Music sung by the choir will include: O Sapientia (Ramsey)\, O Lord\, How Shall I Meet You (Casurella)\, Es ist ein Ros’ entsprungen (Cashmore)\, Matins Responsory (Fishell)\, O Thou the Central Orb (Wood)\, Rorate coeli (Rheinberger)\, and There Is No Rose (McDowall). \nThe service is preceded by an organ recital  (4:30 p.m.) featuring cathedral organist Stephan Casurella. \nIncense will be used at this service. DESCRIPTION:The Native American Ministry Council of Christ Church Cathedral will present a workshop focusing on the connections between African Americans and Native Americans on Saturday\, February 3 at the Cathedral. Led by the Reverend Brother Simeon Powell\, CG (Cherokee/Saponi). There is no charge for the workshop\, but reservations are requested to plan for the included lunch. \nBrother Powell\, (Cherokee/Saponi) and his wife\, Anne\, are Deacons-in-Residence at St. Augustine Episcopal Church\, Rocklin\, CA. He is a graduate of the Episcopal School for Deacons\, Berkeley\, CA. and was ordained in Grace Cathedral\, San Francisco\, CA. He is the former Archdeacon of the Diocese of the Rio Grande and Episcopal Chaplain for the University of New Mexico. He has been a representative of the Episcopal Church to the Anglican Indigenous Network. \nBrother Powell is an advocate for addressing the effects of the Doctrine of Discovery in the Church and authored the Indigenous Lands Acknowledgement Resolution approved by in 2022. \nPowell will also preach at Eucharist on Sunday\, February 4 at 10 a.m. \nThe events are open to all who are interested in African American and Native American history and culture. DESCRIPTION:An Advent Procession with Lessons and Carols\nSunday\, December 1\n4:30-5:00 pm | Pre-Service Organ Recital\n5:00-6:15 pm | Advent Procession \nThis beautiful service is a wonderful way to begin the season of waiting for Christ’s birth. It is built around the seven Great “O” Antiphons that were traditionally sung at Vespers on the seven days prior to Christmas and eventually became the seven stanzas of the familiar Advent hymn “O Come\, O Come\, Emmanuel.” During the service\, music\, Scripture readings\, and prayers invite us to reflect on each of the antiphons. Seven gorgeous banners bearing the “O” Antiphon symbols\, each carried in procession while its corresponding antiphon is sung\, make this a visually as well as musically rich experience. Music sung by the choir will include: Let My Prayer Come Up as the Incense (Peter Hallock)\, The Great “O Antiphons” (Mode 2 plainchant and Peter Hallock)\, The Doctrine of Wisdom (William Mathias)\, Confortamini (Orlando di Lasso)\, A Tender Shoot (Kerensa Briggs)\, Hosanna to the Son of David (Thomas Weelkes)\, Infinite Light (arr. Paul Halley)\, Rorate coeli (Francisco Guerrero)\, There is No Rose (Cecilia McDowall). \nThe service is preceded by an organ recital featuring cathedral organist Abraham Wallace. \nIncense will be used at this service.
