DESCRIPTION:Christ Church Cathedral presents a concert to mark the 30th anniversary of the AIDS Quilt Songbook’s publishing\, with selections from the original 1993 collection and other later additions\, featuring Stacey Sands and Tess Klibanoff (mezzo-sopranos)\, Henry Benson (tenor)\, and Seth Kershisnik (bass-baritone). \nAs an in memorium of those lost to HIV/AIDS\, Mitchell Sturges (Tenor) will give the Christ Church premiere of Clint Borzoni’s moving & intimate Requiem Fragments with Sara Cahall (piano) and Molly Jones Castrucci (cello). A powerful new work for voice\, cello\, and piano\, it reimagines the Requiem liturgy using texts from the Book of Psalms and poetry of Walt Whitman. All proceeds from this concert will go to Caracole\, the tri-state nonprofit devoted to positively changing lives in the fight against HIV/AIDS by providing comprehensive services in prevention\, education\, housing\, and care. \nConvenient parking is located in the Queen City Square Garage across the street from the cathedral’s Fourth Street entrance.

The concert will also be streamed live on the Holy Trinity YouTube channel. \nFormed in 2017\, Srivastava & Feist is a duo comprised of saxophonist Om Srivastava and tabla player/percussionist Jim Feist. Professors at the prestigious University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music\, the two formed the idea of a new modern-fusion duo rooted in an Indian identity. Srivastava & Feist perform original compositions and improvisations steeped in bold rhythm and melody toward achieving a contemporary Indian sound. A review of their debut album 7th Life in the NACWPI Journal describes “the virtuosity of both Srivastava and Feist…melodic and rhythmic acrobatics are on full display from two incredible performers…fascinating.”

DESCRIPTION:The Christ Church Cathedral choir will perform at Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday\, December 3 at 5 p.m. \nThis beautiful service is a wonderful way to begin the season of waiting for Christ’s birth. It is built around the seven Great “O” Antiphons that were traditionally sung at Vespers on the seven days prior to Christmas and eventually became the seven stanzas of the familiar Advent hymn “O Come\, O Come\, Emmanuel.” During the service\, music\, Scripture readings\, and prayers invite us to reflect on each of the antiphons. Seven gorgeous banners bearing the “O” Antiphon symbols\, each carried in procession while its corresponding antiphon is sung\, make this a visually as well as musically rich experience. Music sung by the choir will include: O Sapientia (Ramsey)\, O Lord\, How Shall I Meet You (Casurella)\, Es ist ein Ros’ entsprungen (Cashmore)\, Matins Responsory (Fishell)\, O Thou the Central Orb (Wood)\, Rorate coeli (Rheinberger)\, and There Is No Rose (McDowall). \nThe service is preceded by an organ recital  (4:30 p.m.) featuring cathedral organist Stephan Casurella. \nIncense will be used at this service. DESCRIPTION:The Native American Ministry Council of Christ Church Cathedral will present a workshop focusing on the connections between African Americans and Native Americans on Saturday\, February 3 at the Cathedral. Led by the Reverend Brother Simeon Powell\, CG (Cherokee/Saponi). There is no charge for the workshop\, but reservations are requested to plan for the included lunch. \nBrother Powell\, (Cherokee/Saponi) and his wife\, Anne\, are Deacons-in-Residence at St. Augustine Episcopal Church\, Rocklin\, CA. He is a graduate of the Episcopal School for Deacons\, Berkeley\, CA. and was ordained in Grace Cathedral\, San Francisco\, CA. He is the former Archdeacon of the Diocese of the Rio Grande and Episcopal Chaplain for the University of New Mexico. He has been a representative of the Episcopal Church to the Anglican Indigenous Network. \nBrother Powell is an advocate for addressing the effects of the Doctrine of Discovery in the Church and authored the Indigenous Lands Acknowledgement Resolution approved by in 2022. \nPowell will also preach at Eucharist on Sunday\, February 4 at 10 a.m. \nThe events are open to all who are interested in African American and Native American history and culture. DESCRIPTION:Holy Trinity\, Oxford\, will hold the fourth concert in the Red Door Community Concert series on Friday\, February 16 at 12:15 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Masks are suggested. The concert will also be streamed live on the Holy Trinity YouTube channel. \nConcert #4 features the duo of Siok Lian Tan\, piano\, and Tze Yean Lim\, violin\, playing Twentieth Century composers from the Americas. Tan holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano from CCM in Cincinnati. She has appeared as a soloist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and presented concerts in major cities such as New York\, Chicago\, Luxembourg\, Cologne\, Cape Town\, Hong Kong\, Kuala Lumpur\, Melbourne\, and London. She also performs regularly with her violinist husband\, Tze Yean Lim\, who holds a Doctor of Music in Violin from CCM. A former a member of the faculty string quartet at Wright State University\, Lim has also presented solo violin recitals in Malaysia\, Indonesia\, Hong Kong\, Australia\, South Africa\, and throughout the United States. He actively performs at the College Music Society-Great-Lakes Conferences. Besides performing\, Lim also maintains a studio of gifted young violinists. \nBoth artists are currently on the faculty of Miami University. You don’t want to miss this concert!
