Christ Church Cathedral presents the Boar’s Head & Yule Log Festival as a gift to the people of Cincinnati. It is not a story of tunes and times past and gone. It is a living story told by modern-day minstrels and echoed in all of us. These performances are given with our best wishes for a blessed and joyous season. \nThe pageant is rooted in ancient times when the boar was sovereign of the forest. A ferocious beast and menace to humans it was hunted as a public enemy. At Roman feasts\, boar was the first dish served. Like our Thanksgiving turkey\, roasted boar was a staple of medieval banquets. As Christian beliefs overtook pagan customs in Europe\, the presentation of a boar’s head at Christmas came to symbolize the triumph of the Christ Child over sin. \nLimited free tickets are available here. There is a limit of 4 tickets per person. \nPlease note\, the January 3 performance at 2pm is a dress rehearsal (with very limited stops). The dress rehearsal is a great option for groups as up to 16 tickets can be reserved. \nThe Sunday performances of Boar’s Head will be live-streamed here.

Organizers hope to surpass that success in 2025 as the event celebrates its 20th anniversary. \nThe 5K begins at 9:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day\, Thursday\, November 27th\, starting and ending at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church\, 107 E. Broadway\, Granville. Participants can sign up online at the early-bird rate of $45 for ages 14+\, $25 for ages 6–13\, and free for children 5 and under. Dogs are also welcome to participate! SUMMARY:Sacred Decision Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:On November 7-8 Marcia Patton and Nora Percival will present a two day workshop on consensus decision-making at St. Stephen’s\, Columbus.\n\nMarcia and Nora are the authors of Sacred Decision Making: Consensus in Faith Communities. Consensus decision-making in a church setting promotes inclusivity\, is more egalitarian and less patriarchal than other decision-making models\, encourages a collaborative spirit\, fosters the emergence of unanticipated solutions\, offers an alternative to avoiding issues for fear of stirring up trouble\, demonstrates the belief that everyone’s voice is important\, and shows that the people in the room are more important than the decision in question. It embodies the belief that how we work together is as important as what we do and it clearly invites God into the process. Throughout the training Patton and Percival will provide real-life examples\, planning and meeting ideas\, and essential steps to develop a consensus decision-making model. This training is for anyone who wants to explore a method of decision-making that can truly be considered a “kingdom-practice.”\n\nThe workshop will take place at Saint Stephen’s (30 W. Woodruff Avenue). The Friday evening portion will run from 7:00 – 8:30 PM\, and the Saturday session will run from 9-4 with a break for lunch. Attendees are expected to attend both sessions. DESCRIPTION:The Ohio Council of Churches\, its partners and allies are asking Christian congregations and other faith communities around the state to publicly declare racism to be a sin\, an offense to God that is incompatible with God’s loving and just vision for humanity. Sermons and other anti-racism messages are sought on or near Oct. 19. \nAccording to the Rev. Dr. Jack Sullivan\, Jr.\, the council’s Executive Director\, racism contradicts the clear teachings of Jesus Christ. Sullivan cited Luke 10:25-37; John 4:1-26; Matthew 28:19; Matthew 22:37-39. Racism and oppression of the stranger are also condemned in the Hebrew Scriptures\, in passages such as Leviticus 19: 33\, and in the Holy Koran\, noted others on the Ohio Council of Churches’ Anti-Racism Team. \nFor congregations\, the council said\, Anti-Racism Sunday on Oct. 19 could begin a 13-week emphasis on detecting\, disrupting\, and dismantling racism in all of its forms and disguises\, culminating in the nation’s celebration of the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The council is also offering curricula on its website to support deeper congregational and community discussions about how to address and overcome racism. \n“In an era where hard-fought racial justice and diversity firewalls have been attacked and voided\,” commented Sullivan\, “and as faith is being weaponized to give the scandalous appearance of divine endorsement of racialized hate\, Anti-Racism Sunday is an opportunity for Christians and their neighbors of different faiths to clearly and publicly set the record straight: God does not support racism\, and neither do we!” \nAmerican racism not only hurts Black people\, it specifically hurts working-class Whites and other groups as well\, members of the council’s Anti-Racism Team asserted. And in a policy briefing on economic jeopardy written for the AFL-CIO\, scholar Haney Lopez reported\, “When racism triumphs\, all workers lose.” \n“On Anti-Racism Sunday\,” said Sullivan\, “people of faith will continue … to confront racial disinformation with truth; to counter racial misinformation with facts; and to challenge racial fear with love.” \nParticipating congregations and faith leaders are urged to let the council know about their plans. Emails can be directed to info@ohcouncilchs.org. Canon Cornelia Eaton (Navajo) has served many roles in the Episcopal Church as a laity before being ordained to the priesthood in 2015. She has served the Episcopal Church in Navajoland as a youth minister\, lay leader and assistant to the Bishop\, and is currently the Canon to the Ordinary. She is a storyteller and a writer of poetry with a particular focus on the Navajo way of life known as Iina Biké Hozhó–being in harmony with divine creation through spirituality\, culture\, tradition\, and relationship. \nThe Rt. Rev. Barry L. Beisner was elected Bishop Provisional of the Missionary Diocese of Navajoland in 2023. DESCRIPTION:The human response to witnessing injustice often defaults to fight\, flight\, or freeze. If we are reactive without having foundational tools to respond\, we may not achieve the result we hoped for. If we turn our eyes to injustice\, we can be found complicit. If we freeze\, we may find ourselves in uncomfortable or perilous positions. The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was intentional in helping to train people in civil discourse and nonviolent approaches to conflict resolution. \nSt. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Granville will offer various trainings to help equip God’s people to engage in situations of discomfort. The first training will be Bystander Intervention Training through Right To Be. This one-hour webinar will provide you with the resources to make a decision of action that matches your level of ability and comfort. \nRight To Be shares\, “How can we take action if we don’t know what to do? Right To Be is offering this free\, one-hour\, interactive training to train people on how to safely intervene when you witness street harassment or experience it yourself. During this training\, you’ll learn a clear\, adaptable\, and expert-approved set of tools that have been proven to reduce the prevalence of street harassment: Right To Be’s 5Ds of bystander intervention. \nWe’ll start by deepening our understanding of street harassment and its impact. Then\, we’ll talk through five strategies for intervention: distract\, delegate\, document\, delay\, and direct\, and how to prioritize your own safety while intervening. We’ll also talk about what to do if you’re worried the violence will turn on you and how to avoid escalating the situation. Then\, we’ll talk about what to do if you experience harassment and give you tools to safely get your power back. \nWe’ll have time at the end for practice. Exit polls show 98.8% of attendees leave the training feeling like there is at least one thing they can do the next time they witness harassment.” \nThe training is online and can be accessed anywhere.
