SUMMARY:2025 Episcopal Creation Care Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Come join in conversation with those steeped in prayer\, theology\, the wild outdoors\, agriculture\, and the front lines of pollution\, climate change\, biodiversity loss\, and land use. Take time to wander over the acres of the Proctor Center. Come ready to put your feet on the ground and get your hands dirty while contemplating the goodness of the earth and the wonders of creation\, and listening to the Holy Spirit’s call to action! \nThe Episcopal Creation Care Gathering is an annual church-wide event focused on the work of Christian ministry\, mission\, and living on earth. These gatherings create space for conversation\, learning\, and practice as we explore the deep relationships that bind together spirituality\, justice\, ecology\, discipleship\, and evangelism. \nThis event is for church leaders\, creation care advocates\, gardeners\, green team members\, formation leaders\, and all those interested in our care of all creation. The deadline to register is September 5. \nEpiscopal Creation Care Gathering is co-sponsored by Provinces IV and V\, Procter Center and the Diocese of Southern Ohio. \nTo make this gathering as affordable as possible for all\, we are offering three pricing tiers ranging from $100-375. Please choose the rate you are able to pay. If you have the funds to pay the real cost\, that helps offset our scholarship and subsidized rates. Additionally\, you may donate to the scholarship fund if you are able. \nClick here to view lodging options. \nRegister here. \nQuestions about this event? Contact Jerusalem Greer\, co-executive director of Procter Center\, at jgreer@diosohio.org.

SUMMARY:Creation Care and Environmental Justice Author Book Talk
DESCRIPTION:Before The Streetlights Come On: Black America’s Urgent Call for Climate Solutions \n Zoom Webinar registration required in advance for this webinar: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ClVVfBc4Q2Wc58EEXguW6w \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. \nHeather McTeer Toney\nJoin the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio’s Creation Care and Environmental Justice Commission in hosting acclaimed author and climate activist\, Heather McTeer Toney as she talks about her new book\, Before The Streetlights Come On: Black America’s Urgent Call for Climate Solutions. Ms. Toney argues that climate change is quickly becoming the clarion call to action in the twenty-first century. Yet\, in Black communities\, climate change is seen as less urgent when compared to other pressing issues\, including police brutality\, gun violence\, job security\, food insecurity\, and the blatant racism faced daily around the country. However\, with Black Americans disproportionately impacted by the effects of climate change—making up 13 percent of the US population but breathing 40 percent dirtier air and being twice as likely to be hospitalized or die from climate-related health problems than white counterparts—climate change is a central issue of racial justice and affects every aspect of life for Black communities. In Before the Streetlights Come On\, climate activist Heather McTeer Toney insists that those most affected by climate change are best suited to lead the movement for climate justice. \nMcTeer Toney brings her background in politics\, community advocacy\, and leadership in environmental justice to this revolutionary exploration of why and how Black Americans are uniquely qualified to lead national and global conversations around systems of racial disparity and solutions to the climate crisis. As our country delves deeper into solutions for systemic racism and past injustices\, she argues\, the environmental movement must shift direction and leadership toward those most affected and most affecting change: Black communities. \nIf you plan to attend and will commit to reading the book prior to the event\, we invite you to request a free copy of the book\, here. Free copies will be available to the first 20 people who request the book.
