SUMMARY:Regional Staff Day - St. Andrew's\, Evanston
DESCRIPTION:Bishop White invites leaders and people of the diocese to join her and the diocesan staff at regional staff days taking place throughout 2025. These regional days are intended to bring the diocesan staff — a team of people charged with empowering local leaders and building capacity for congregational ministry — physically closer to all corners of our diocese to reduce barriers for face-to-face connection. \nEach regional staff day will include an hour of drop-in fellowship and conversation from 10 to 11 am with snacks and coffee. Following that time\, all traveling staff members are available by appointment. Learn more.

SUMMARY:Summer Beloved Community Book Study
DESCRIPTION:Our July\, August\, and September Beloved Community Book Study turns to the wise words of Howard Thurman in Jesus and the Disinherited\, with a new Foreword by The Rev. Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas. \n“Famously known as the text that Martin Luther King Jr. sought inspiration from in the days leading up to the Montgomery bus boycott\, Howard Thurman’s Jesus and the Disinherited helped shape the civil rights movement and changed our nation’s history forever.” \nJuly 1: forewords & Chapter 1\nAugust 5: Chapters 2&3\nSeptember 2: Chapters 4 & 5 & Epilogue \nReading the book is not mandatory for this book study! Whether you read a few pages or the whole book\, our conversation will be better with you there. Just prepare for spoilers! We’ll talk about the book—our favorite parts\, where we see ourselves\, and what this book has to do with us\, our faith communities\, and our diocese. \nJoin us to discuss texts vital to our understanding of the beloved community in the Diocese of Southern Ohio and beyond. \nQuestions about this diocesan program?\nContact Miriam McKenney\, missioner for Beloved Community\, at mmckenney@diosohio.org. \n\nAll Beloved Community Book Study sessions will take place on Zoom. \nThere is no cost to participate in the Beloved Community Book Study. Please RSVP to receive your Zoom link and to request the book.

SUMMARY:Society of St. Simeon and St. Anna Spring event
DESCRIPTION:Members of the Society of St. Simeon and St. Anna will gather May 28 for a day of fellowship\, learning\, and becoming Beloved Community! \nIn 2023\, several members of the Society of St. Simeon and St. Anna met with Canon Julie Murray and the Rev. Jason Prati to dream about strengthening the community of Society members and offering additional learning and fellowship opportunities beyond the annual luncheon and induction ceremony. The first such event\, a day to visit Ohio’s newest state park and to spend time honoring the history of indigenous and African American people of the area\, will be held on Wednesday\, May 28. \n\n\nThis statue of Shawnee leader Tecumseh stands in front of the Interpretive Center at Great Council State Park.\n\nThe day will begin in Xenia at Great Council State Park\, built on the site of the Shawnee village of Old Chillicothe\, which was once home to Tecumseh and where Daniel Boone was held captive. Visitors will tour the Interpretive Center and learn about Shawnee culture from one of Great Council’s tour guides\, the Rev. Steve Cuff\, a retired priest of the diocese. \nAfter lunch\, the group will travel to Wilberforce to visit the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center. \nThe event is offered at no-cost to St. Simeon and St. Anna Society members. \nThe diocese is looking into the possibility of offering regional bus/van transportation for this trip if there is sufficient interest. Transportation costs would be the responsibility of the riders. SUMMARY:Dismantling Racism training (May)
DESCRIPTION:Receive the canonically required anti-racism certification by completing this course via Zoom with Miriam McKenney\, Missioner for Beloved Community\, and co-leaders. Miriam uses picture books in this training to discover\, explore\, discuss\, and share stories. We’ll explore topics you may not have learned about in your formal education but are crucial to our understanding as we work to repair\, heal\, and see God in each other. \nThis course is on Wednesday evenings\, May 7\, 14\, and 21\, from 6-8 p.m. Eastern. Bring your dinner! We will share stories\, scripture\, and solutions to dismantle racism in our corner of God’s creation. \nAttend all sessions for certification. You can make up a session in the future if you miss one. \nRegister for this training here. \nEmail  Miriam McKenney to learn more.
