SUMMARY:Granville Turkey Trot
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 20th annual Granville Turkey Trot taking place Thanksgiving morning! \nRunners\, walkers\, friends and families of all ages have supported this great run through the streets of Granville all to support the Food Pantry Network of Licking County \nAs in past years\, 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Food Pantry Network of Licking County\, which works year-round to provide food and essentials to individuals and families in need across Licking County. \nIn 2024\, the Granville Turkey Trot raised $131\,000 for the Food Pantry Network and drew over 2\,300 participants ranging in age from toddlers in strollers to seasoned runners in their 80s! Organizers hope to surpass that success in 2025 as the event celebrates its 20th anniversary. \nThe 5K begins at 9:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day\, Thursday\, November 27th\, starting and ending at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church\, 107 E. Broadway\, Granville. Participants can sign up online at the early-bird rate of $45 for ages 14+\, $25 for ages 6–13\, and free for children 5 and under. Dogs are also welcome to participate! Early registration closes October 31st. \n“The Granville Turkey Trot has become a beloved Thanksgiving tradition—a chance for friends\, families\, and neighbors to run\, eat\, and nap! It’s amazing to see how this community has shown up for 19 years to make a difference for families in need. We’re really looking forward to celebrating the 20th!” said co-chairs Michelann Marlow and Michele Layman. \nThis community event is made possible by the generous support of local sponsors\, volunteers\, and the partnership between the Granville Recreation District\, the Granville Turkey Trot Committee\, and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Numerous area businesses also contribute to making the event a success each year. \nFor more information or to register\, visit www.granvilleturkeytrot.com or call (740) 587-0167.

SUMMARY:Beloved Community Book Study: Homegoing
DESCRIPTION:Our beloved community book study aims to foster a sense of community as we share and discuss ideas from seminal works of non-fiction and\, now\, fiction. By rooting our individual stories and local stories in our shared scriptural stories\, we aim to follow Jesus more closely and build the beloved community in the Diocese of Southern Ohio. \nOur Fall Book Study will take on Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. \n\nThe unforgettable New York Times best seller begins with the story of two half-sisters\, separated by forces beyond their control: one sold into slavery\, the other married to a British slaver. Homegoing traces the generations of family who follow\, as their destinies lead them through two continents and three hundred years of history\, each life indelibly drawn\, as Gyasi reveals the legacy of slavery in light of the present day. Effia and Esi are born into different villages in eighteenth-century Ghana. Effia is married off to an Englishman and lives in comfort in the palatial rooms of Cape Coast Castle. Unbeknownst to Effia\, her sister\, Esi\, is imprisoned beneath her in the castle’s dungeons\, sold with thousands of others into the Gold Coast’s booming slave trade\, and shipped off to the United States. One thread of Homegoing follows Effia’s descendants through centuries of warfare in Ghana\, as the Fante and Asante nations wrestle with the slave trade and British colonization. The other thread follows Esi and her children from the plantations of the South to the Civil War and the Great Migration\, from the coal mines of Pratt City\, Alabama\, to the jazz clubs and dope houses of twentieth-century Harlem\, and continues through to the present day. Homegoing makes history visceral\, capturing with singular and stunning immediacy how the memory of captivity is inscribed in the soul of a nation. \nThis book study gathers over three evenings from 7-8 pm: October 7\, November 3\, and December 2.This online gathering takes place on Zoom. Register. \nThere is no registration deadline\, however\, if requesting to be mailed a copy of the book\, please register no later than September 30.

SUMMARY:Holy Trinity\, Kenwood closing Eucharist
DESCRIPTION:Please join us as we celebrate the closing Eucharist at Holy Trinity\, Kenwood and mark our gratitude for its impact on the community and our diocese. SUMMARY:Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Boar’s Head is one of the oldest continuing festival of the Christmas season. On its 600th anniversary in 1940\, it was first celebrated at Christ Church\, Cincinnati. Christ Church Cathedral presents the Boar’s Head & Yule Log Festival as a gift to the people of Cincinnati. It is not a story of tunes and times past and gone. It is a living story told by modern-day minstrels and echoed in all of us. These performances are given with our best wishes for a blessed and joyous season. \nThe pageant is rooted in ancient times when the boar was sovereign of the forest. A ferocious beast and menace to humans it was hunted as a public enemy. At Roman feasts\, boar was the first dish served. Like our Thanksgiving turkey\, roasted boar was a staple of medieval banquets. As Christian beliefs overtook pagan customs in Europe\, the presentation of a boar’s head at Christmas came to symbolize the triumph of the Christ Child over sin. \nLimited free tickets are available here. There is a limit of 4 tickets per person. \nPlease note\, the January 3 performance at 2pm is a dress rehearsal (with very limited stops). The dress rehearsal is a great option for groups as up to 16 tickets can be reserved. \nThe Sunday performances of Boar’s Head will be live-streamed here.

SUMMARY:Beloved Community Book Study - The Church Cracked Open
DESCRIPTION:We all belong in the Beloved Community book study. Each first Tuesday of the month\, we gather\, pray\, and discuss a book the hosts believe will bring us closer to the dream God has for us as God’s beloved children. Our January\, February\, and March book is The Church Cracked Open by the Rev. Stephanie Spellers! This book will help us put our last book\, Homegoing\, in an Episcopal context. Whether you read Homegoing or not\, please join us to read this important book. Request a complimentary copy of the book in paperback\, kindle\, or audiobook when you register. \nRegister here. \nReading the book is not mandatory for this book study! Whether you read a few pages or the whole book\, our conversation will be better with you there. Just prepare for spoilers! We’ll talk about the book—our favorite parts\, where we see ourselves\, and what this book has to do with us\, our faith communities\, and our diocese.

SUMMARY:Good Neighbor Series at Indian Hill Church: The Transformative Power of Theater
DESCRIPTION:Introducing the Good Neighbor Series\, created by the Indian Hill Church to provide informative and entertaining programs around our communities’ common interests. Open not only to church members but also to those who live in surrounding neighborhoods\, we invite you to mark your calendars for evenings of fellowship\, fun\, food\, and learning. \nOn Tuesday\, January 13\, Indian Hill Church will host a special evening\, featuring the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company (CSC) to explore how the arts—especially theater—can help people of all ages grow in confidence\, communication\, empathy and creativity. Our guests for the evening will be Sara Clark\, Director of Development for CSC and a former professional actress\, and Emily Bruns\, CSC’s Education Director. Both are dynamic presenters with a deep passion for helping people\, especially students and life-long learners\, discover the transformative power of drama. Together\, they will share insights from their work with students across Greater Cincinnati\, including programs at Indian Hill High School and Cincinnati Country Day School\, where theater education has become a powerful tool for personal and social development.\nDuring the evening\, Sara and Emily will share highlights from CSC’s educational programs and describe the science and stories behind why drama makes such a difference\, especially for children and teens. \nCome discover firsthand what drama can do—not just for our children\, but for all of us who believe in the power of imagination and human connection. \nA catered dinner from Beth O’Leary will be offered before the presentation\, allowing time for fellowship and conversation with friends and neighbors. Dinner will include wild rice with Juliane roasted chicken\, dried cherries\, yellow peppers\, scallions\, toasted almonds\, with balsamic vinaigrette dressing – All Gluten Free \nPlease RSVP by January 6 to sshumard@indianhillchurch.org.

SUMMARY:Advocacy Workshop: Countering Extremism through Engagement
DESCRIPTION:As Episcopalians\, do you find yourself asking the following questions? \n\nAs Christians how do we take the principles we hear from the pulpit and apply them in a Christlike way to our shared public life in Ohio?\nHow do we counter the extremism operating in our state without cultivating hate for others?\nHow can the church be a place of healing and liberation for both the oppressor and the oppressed?\nHow does the Ohio statehouse work?\nHow can we begin to organize for the dignity of our neighbors and affect meaningful policy change at the state level now?\n\nJoin Trinity\, Capitol Square and other leaders across the Diocese of Southern Ohio on Saturday\, January 31 to explore each of these questions and more as we gather together to inspire\, inform and catalyze our commitment to loving our neighbors in Ohio. \nKeynote Speaker Maria Bruno will offer a compelling vision of how we fight extremism in Ohio’s state and local government by building community\, holding out hope for transformation and not spreading hate. Then\, Rachel Coyle will lead a seminar\, “How Things Work at the Ohio Statehouse?” for a non-partisan nuts and bolts look at both the political process that results in bills being passed and how to advocate effectively for issues in Ohio. And then finally\, the Rev. Nick Bates will share how people of faith are currently organizing at the state level and facilitate small group discussions for how we can leave this gathering ready to engage as Episcopalians. SUMMARY:ECM Round 1 grant cycle opens
DESCRIPTION:Episcopal Community Ministries (ECM)\, our diocese’s outreach arm\, offers grants to multiple congregation-affiliated outreach ministries\, including food banks\, community gardens\, community meals\, tutoring programs\, human trafficking victim support services and medical debt relief. \nECM desires to support our congregations that support their neighbors as reflected in ECM’s purpose statement: \nThe mission of the Episcopal Community Ministries is to inspire and support each other in the living out of our Baptismal Covenant through active\, generous\, and committed congregations and their outward looking ministries. \nThe ECM Committee is pleased to announce the dates of the two grant cycles for 2026: \n\nRound I: Application opens on February 1 and closes on March 1.\nRound II: Application opens on June 1 and closes on July 1.\n\nThe following are some of the basic criteria to apply: \n\nCongregational Commitment – the requesting congregation must demonstrate committed and impactful support of the ministry both financially and through the active and significant participation of its parishioners.\nThe Congregation is in “good standing” as determined by canon. This status includes being current in Mission Share contributions\, and having up‐to‐date submissions of the Parochial Report\, Diocesan Annual Reporting Form\, and parish audit.\nThe ministry to be funded addresses a vital need in the community.\n\nECM grants are funded by an annual draw from the Blanchard Memorial Endowment Fund established by the trustees of the diocese\, and by donations from congregations and individuals. Every dollar donated to ECM goes to local church outreach ministries helping their neighbors in need. \nTo apply for a grant\, learn more about the grant criteria\, and become more familiar with ECM\, please visit diosohio.org/episcopal-community-ministries.
