SUMMARY:Christmas at St. Thomas: Bach's Magnificat
DESCRIPTION:Bach’s joyous Magnificat heralds the Christmas season in a blaze of glory. \nThe work is a masterpiece of festive exuberance\, perfect for the Christmas season! The composer’s use of a large ensemble brings a majestic richness that will fill St. Thomas Church with joy and grandeur. SUMMARY:An Advent Procession with Lessons and Carols
DESCRIPTION:An Advent Procession with Lessons and Carols\nSunday\, December 1\n4:30-5:00 pm | Pre-Service Organ Recital\n5:00-6:15 pm | Advent Procession \nThis beautiful service is a wonderful way to begin the season of waiting for Christ’s birth. It is built around the seven Great “O” Antiphons that were traditionally sung at Vespers on the seven days prior to Christmas and eventually became the seven stanzas of the familiar Advent hymn “O Come\, O Come\, Emmanuel.” During the service\, music\, Scripture readings\, and prayers invite us to reflect on each of the antiphons. Seven gorgeous banners bearing the “O” Antiphon symbols\, each carried in procession while its corresponding antiphon is sung\, make this a visually as well as musically rich experience. Music sung by the choir will include: Let My Prayer Come Up as the Incense (Peter Hallock)\, The Great “O Antiphons” (Mode 2 plainchant and Peter Hallock)\, The Doctrine of Wisdom (William Mathias)\, Confortamini (Orlando di Lasso)\, A Tender Shoot (Kerensa Briggs)\, Hosanna to the Son of David (Thomas Weelkes)\, Infinite Light (arr. Paul Halley)\, Rorate coeli (Francisco Guerrero)\, There is No Rose (Cecilia McDowall). \nThe service is preceded by an organ recital featuring cathedral organist Abraham Wallace. \nIncense will be used at this service. The service will be available via live stream at https://cincinnaticathedral.com/livestream/. \nFor more information\, visit www.cincinnaticathedral.com or call 513-621-1817.

SUMMARY:Beloved Community Book Study: The Book of Joy
DESCRIPTION:Our October and November title: The Book of Joy\, by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and His Holiness the Dalai Lama \nIn April 2015\, Archbishop Tutu traveled to the Dalai Lama’s home in Dharamsala\, India\, to celebrate His Holiness’s eightieth birthday and to create what they hoped would be a gift for others. They looked back on their long lives to answer a single burning question: How do we find joy in the face of life’s inevitable suffering? \nWe get to listen as they explore the Nature of True Joy and confront each of the Obstacles of Joy-from fear\, stress\, and anger to grief\, illness\, and death. They then offer us the Eight Pillars of Joy\, which provide the foundation for lasting happiness. Throughout\, they include stories\, wisdom\, and science. Finally\, they share their daily Joy Practices that anchor their own emotional and spiritual lives.\n– from the publisher \nWe’re so excited to learn from these great men! No matter how much of the book you have or haven’t read\, please join us! Register here to receive the Zoom link and a copy of the book if you don’t already have it. \nRemember to mark your calendar of the first Tuesday of each month at 7 pm!

SUMMARY:Introduction to Lay Preaching Program
DESCRIPTION:The Lay Preacher Training Program will run from Fall 2024 through September 2025\, with monthly sessions taking place on Zoom and in-person. An introduction to the program will be held on Saturday\, October 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Procter Center. There is no cost to attend. Participants should expect to meet about twice monthly\, either in-person or on Zoom. \nThe cost to participate in the year-long program is $500/person. Applications are open now and will remain open after the October 12 introduction session. The deadline to apply for the full program is October 21. \nQuestions about this diocesan program?\nContact our coordinator\, the Rev. SUMMARY:Make Me an Instrument of Peace: Building Capacity for Engaging on Tough Topics
DESCRIPTION:In this election season\, as heightened division and fear impacts our church communities\, how can Episcopalians equip themselves to build and maintain relationships that are fundamental to our common life? This workshop will focus on civil discourse as a critical tool for bridging partisan divides\, learning from one another\, and creating better solutions for our communities. But what is civil discourse? How does it differ from civility? \nBased on the online class created by The Episcopal Church and ChurchNext\, we will explore developing individual and community capacity for civil discourse\, applying it to public policy conversations\, and assessing how civil discourse co-exists with other types of personal and institutional engagement. \nThis workshop\, led by Alan Yarborough of the Episcopal Church’s Office of Government Relations\, will focus on civil discourse as a critical tool for bridging partisan divides\, learning from one another\, and creating better solutions for our communities. \nRegister in advance for this meeting at this link. After registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
