DESCRIPTION:Please join us as we celebrate the closing Eucharist at Iglesia Episcopal de Espíritu Santo (IEES) and mark our gratitude for its impact on the community and our diocese. \nThe ministry we know as IEES has offered community in many iterations over its years. First\, a traditional Episcopal congregation known as the Church of the Holy Spirit\, then as an intentional Spanish-speaking worshipping community\, then without a worshipping community but continuing its core outreach ministries: a food pantry\, afterschool tutoring program\, and much more. \nEarlier this year\, we announced that the ministry at IEES would close after many years of fruitful and impactful ministry in the Forest Park neighborhood of Cincinnati. As these ministries have concluded and as a new expression of Latino ministry emerges through the congregations of our diocese\, we will celebrate with a special service honoring IEES and the people who have been transformed through it. \nClergy who have historically been involved with IEES are invited to vest and process wearing white stoles. SUMMARY:Mini CCD
DESCRIPTION:Join the wider diocese for a day of learning and encountering tools for congregations of all sizes\, locations\, and conditions to be more healthy\, faithful\, and effective as they live out God’s call. This Mini College for Congregational Development (or Mini-CCD) is an opportunity in particular for clergy and lay leaders who have not yet attended the week-long intensive. \nThis Mini-CCD will focus on tools for congregations to talk about and identify their unique purpose as a faith community and how they’re called to be local expressions of the body of Christ in the neighborhoods in which they’ve been planted. Participants will learn several core models of the college and engage in meaningful conversations\, both with participants from their own congregations and with leaders from churches across the diocese. Individuals are welcome to attend on their own\, but we highly encourage folks to participate together as a team with other members from their congregations. \nRecognizing that the week-long CCD experience is not accessible to everyone\, whether due to scheduling conflicts or participant size limits\, Mini-CCD is one way that we are seeking to integrate these teachings more broadly into a shared vocabulary for the diocese. In addition\, this is also an opportunity for those who are curious about attending the week-long intensive in 2026 to get a taste of what the week might be like. Those who did attend this summer’s week-long intensive are welcome for a refresher of material and to bring along additional members of their congregation. \nSchedule \n9:30 am – Arrivals\n10:00 am – Program Begins\nMid-day – Lunch\n3:00 pm – Program Concludes \nRegistration \nThere is no cost to participate in the Mini-CCD. DESCRIPTION:Please join us as we celebrate the closing Eucharist at Holy Trinity\, Kenwood and mark our gratitude for its impact on the community and our diocese. Earlier this year\, we announced that the leadership of Holy Trinity discerned to close. DESCRIPTION:Safe Church training helps us protect children\, youth\, and vulnerable adults by promoting healthy boundaries\, accountability\, and care. It is a practical way to live out our Baptismal Covenant by respecting the dignity of every human being and striving for justice and peace. \nThe training also equips clergy\, staff\, and volunteers to build trust and respond faithfully and appropriately if concerns arise\, helping our congregations remain safe and welcoming places for all. \nThose who prefer an in-person learning experience are invited to attend the daylong training at Procter Camp and Conference Center on February 19. We’ll begin at 10 am and conclude by 3 pm\, with a break for lunch. Participation in this training completes the requirement for service on vestries\, diocesan leadership\, and most other ministry roles. \nTraining is available for adults and teens over 16 years old\, with a responsible adult. DESCRIPTION:Each year\, the clergy of the diocese gather for a few days of renewal\, learning\, and strengthening our shared ministry. This year’s conference will focus on conflict resolution through the lens of Jesus’ life and teaching: exploring faithful ways to engage disagreement\, disruption\, and transformation in our congregations and communities. From the prophetic act of turning over the tables to practices of reconciliation and repair\, clergy will build practical skills for navigating conflict with courage\, clarity\, and pastoral care. \nOur guest facilitator is the Rev. Laura Eberly. Laura is a vocational deacon\, community organizer\, and trainer around conflict resolution. She currently serves as clergy-in-charge at Santiago St. James Episcopal Church—a small\, bilingual\, working class community living out its gospel call in Oakland\, CA. Whether she is leading Santiago’s heartfelt Coffee Conmigo conversations\, College for Congregational Development trainings\, or workshops with her DEI consulting practice\, Laura’s work is to tend the nets. She is attentive to the ties that bind us and to how we can build infrastructure to support and nourish them. DESCRIPTION:In 2025\, we took important steps in reinvigorating connections across churches at the regional level in the Diocese of Southern Ohio. We experimented with Regional Staff Work Days\, in which diocesan staff traveled together to sites around the diocese\, increasing access to in-person meetings and fellowship with local leaders. At the same time\, a task force met and gathered with lay and clergy leaders for conversation and input about the ways we gather across geography\, a process that resulted in the creation of four new regions. \nAs a continuation of that investment in accessibility and connection\, the diocesan staff will once again hit the road in 2026\, offering opportunities to meet\, learn\, celebrate\, and connect beyond the walls of your own church. \nIn each region of the diocese\, the diocesan staff will be present for Staff Work Days\, offering the opportunity for drop-in fellowship and appointments with local leaders\, reducing barriers for face-to-face connection. \nSouthwest Region: Friday\, March 6 \n10-11 am – Drop-in Fellowship Hour with light snacks and coffee.\n11-3 pm – Staff available for pre-made appointments. \nNo RSVP required to join the Regional Staff Days\, but please make an appointment if wanting to meet with staff. \nSchedule with staff member \nPlease note: The Leadership Day originally scheduled for Saturday\, March 7 has been cancelled.

She earned her own doctoral degree from Kent State University at the age of 26 and still sees her most fulfilling achievement and role in life as that of mother to her five adopted children. \n“If you ain’t dead\, you ain’t done\,” a character in one of Berry’s novels says. \nBerry believes that every one of us has been given a unique purpose and it is our obligation to find it and use it to improve first our own self and then for those with whom we live and work.

SUMMARY:Informational Session for the 2026 Lay Preaching Program
DESCRIPTION:Lay preachers bring the Gospel into congregations\, dioceses\, and communities with faithfulness\, creativity\, and deep love for the church. Rooted in lived experience\, they offer voices shaped by daily life\, local context\, and the call of the Holy Spirit. Whether lay or ordained\, Episcopal preaching values robust formation and shared theological grounding for faithful and bold proclamation.  \nOur informational session will provide an overview of the diocesan Lay Preacher Program\, a taste of what the course looks like\, and an invitation to continue with the full year-long program. The informational session is required for all those planning to participate in the year-long course. \nIf you feel called to this ministry\, speak with your rector or priest-in-charge (or if no seated clergy\, the senior warden) to discuss your interest and potential participation. SUMMARY:African Americans and the Bible Book Study
DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays in April from 6-7:30 pm on Zoom\nJoin the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio this April for an engaging and transformative formation opportunity: African Americans and the Bible. \nThis four-week study invites participants into a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural relationship between African Americans and Holy Scripture. Grounded in The Talking Book by Allen Dwight Callahan\, this course explores how African Americans encountered\, interpreted\, proclaimed\, and embodied the Bible in the midst of enslavement and the ongoing struggle for freedom and dignity. \nFor generations\, the Bible has been more than a sacred text in African American communities—it has been a source of hope\, resistance\, identity\, spiritual wrestling\, and spiritual power. Together\, we will examine how this “talking book” has shaped faith\, worship\, preaching\, and public witness. Participants will gain a richer appreciation for Scripture as it has been read and lived through the cultural lens of African Americans\, broadening and deepening their own engagement with the Word of God. \nWhether you are clergy\, a lay leader\, or someone seeking to grow in faith and understanding\, this study offers space for learning\, reflection\, and meaningful conversation.
