SUMMARY:Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Boar’s Head is one of the oldest continuing festival of the Christmas season. On its 600th anniversary in 1940\, it was first celebrated at Christ Church\, Cincinnati. Christ Church Cathedral presents the Boar’s Head & Yule Log Festival as a gift to the people of Cincinnati. It is not a story of tunes and times past and gone. It is a living story told by modern-day minstrels and echoed in all of us. These performances are given with our best wishes for a blessed and joyous season. \nThe pageant is rooted in ancient times when the boar was sovereign of the forest. A ferocious beast and menace to humans it was hunted as a public enemy. At Roman feasts\, boar was the first dish served. Like our Thanksgiving turkey\, roasted boar was a staple of medieval banquets. As Christian beliefs overtook pagan customs in Europe\, the presentation of a boar’s head at Christmas came to symbolize the triumph of the Christ Child over sin. \nLimited free tickets are available here. There is a limit of 4 tickets per person. \nPlease note\, the January 3 performance at 2pm is a dress rehearsal (with very limited stops). The dress rehearsal is a great option for groups as up to 16 tickets can be reserved. \nThe Sunday performances of Boar’s Head will be live-streamed here.

SUMMARY:Beloved Community Book Study - The Church Cracked Open
DESCRIPTION:We all belong in the Beloved Community book study. Each first Tuesday of the month\, we gather\, pray\, and discuss a book the hosts believe will bring us closer to the dream God has for us as God’s beloved children. Our January\, February\, and March book is The Church Cracked Open by the Rev. Stephanie Spellers! This book will help us put our last book\, Homegoing\, in an Episcopal context. Whether you read Homegoing or not\, please join us to read this important book. Request a complimentary copy of the book in paperback\, kindle\, or audiobook when you register. \nRegister here. \nReading the book is not mandatory for this book study! Whether you read a few pages or the whole book\, our conversation will be better with you there. Just prepare for spoilers! We’ll talk about the book—our favorite parts\, where we see ourselves\, and what this book has to do with us\, our faith communities\, and our diocese.

SUMMARY:Advocacy Workshop: Countering Extremism through Engagement
DESCRIPTION:As Episcopalians\, do you find yourself asking the following questions? \n\nAs Christians how do we take the principles we hear from the pulpit and apply them in a Christlike way to our shared public life in Ohio?\nHow do we counter the extremism operating in our state without cultivating hate for others?\nHow can the church be a place of healing and liberation for both the oppressor and the oppressed?\nHow does the Ohio statehouse work?\nHow can we begin to organize for the dignity of our neighbors and affect meaningful policy change at the state level now?\n\nJoin Trinity\, Capitol Square and other leaders across the Diocese of Southern Ohio on Saturday\, January 31 to explore each of these questions and more as we gather together to inspire\, inform and catalyze our commitment to loving our neighbors in Ohio. \nKeynote Speaker Maria Bruno will offer a compelling vision of how we fight extremism in Ohio’s state and local government by building community\, holding out hope for transformation and not spreading hate. Then\, Rachel Coyle will lead a seminar\, “How Things Work at the Ohio Statehouse?” for a non-partisan nuts and bolts look at both the political process that results in bills being passed and how to advocate effectively for issues in Ohio. And then finally\, the Rev. Nick Bates will share how people of faith are currently organizing at the state level and facilitate small group discussions for how we can leave this gathering ready to engage as Episcopalians.
