SUMMARY:Winter Youth Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Young people in 6th-12th grades are invited to join their peers across the Diocese of Southern Ohio for a three-day retreat at Procter Center! \nOur retreat will include winter camp activities such as sing-song\, Procter Games\, campfire\, camp compline\, farm and forest visits\, and more. We can’t wait to see you! \nThis youth retreat has been subsidized to $150/person. Scholarships are available and may be requested on the registration form. If a young person desires to be at the retreat\, Procter Center will do everything we can to make that happen. The RSVP deadline is February 21\, 2025. \nRSVP here \nQuestions about this event? SUMMARY:Beloved Community Book Study: The Serviceberry
DESCRIPTION:As we work toward becoming Beloved Community in Southern Ohio\, books can help us explore paths toward healing and reconciliation. Like the stories from holy scripture\, stories in books offer a common language and equal ground to discuss challenging issues and topics while building community. \nEach first Tuesday of the month\, we will gather\, pray\, and discuss a book the hosts believe will bring us closer to the dream God has for us as God’s beloved children. Our title for February and March is The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Participants can request a free copy of the book on the RSVP form. \nReading the book is not mandatory for this book study! Whether you read a few pages or the whole book\, our conversation will be better with you there. Just prepare for spoilers! We’ll talk about the book—our favorite parts\, where we see ourselves\, and what this book has to do with us\, our faith communities\, and our diocese. \nJoin us to discuss texts vital to our understanding of the beloved community in the Diocese of Southern Ohio and beyond. \nOur discussion of The Serviceberry takes place February 4 and March  from 7 to 8 pm. SUMMARY:Kenyon College Chamber Singers at St. James\, Westwood
DESCRIPTION:The Kenyon College Chamber Singers will perform at St. James\, Westwood\, on Thursday\, March 6 at 7 pm. The Chamber Singers\, consisting of forty-five undergraduates chosen by competitive audition\, is Kenyon’s premier touring ensemble. The group is noted for its versatility of vocal style and broad repertoire. \nA centerpiece to the program will be Ralph Vaughan Williams’s setting of words by John Bunyan\, taken from his allegory The Pilgrim’s Progress\, entitled Valiant-for-Truth. Another highlight of the program is a performance of Beloved\, composed by Kenyon graduate Andrea Daly in honor of Katheen Locke who passed away in 2020. The ensemble is noted for its regular inclusion of music from South Africa\, which this year includes Noya Na?\, a Xhosa hymn\, and Bawo\, Thixo Somandla\, a combination prayer/protest anthem dating from the time of Apartheid. Additional composers represented on the program are Palestrina\, Joan Szymko\, Jean Mouton\, William Dawson\, Johannes Brahms\, and others.
