SUMMARY:Lenten Book Study: Good Inside
DESCRIPTION:Buy your copy on Bookshop.org and support local booksellers.\nThis virtual Lenten book study is for parents and caregivers at all ages and stages. Together we’ll be reading Good Inside by child psychologist Dr. Becky Kennedy\, placing her ideas alongside our Baptismal Covenant. \nWe’ll explore what it means to raise children who are already loved\, worthy\, and held by God. We’ll also reflect on how a compassionate\, relationship-centered approach to parenting resonates with our baptismal promises: to seek Christ in all people\, to respect the dignity of every human being\, and to grow together in love. \nThrough honest conversation and practical reflection\, parents and caregivers will be supported in translating these shared values into everyday family life. We’ll also learn more about giving ourselves grace when we miss the mark with our kids! \nNo theology background required—just curiosity\, openness\, and a desire to learn. Groups may choose to join the Zoom meeting from a common location\, or participate individually from home. \nThis book study gathers on Wednesday evenings from 7-8 pm from February 25 to April 1 and takes place on Zoom. All are welcome. This study is especially geared toward parents and caregivers. \nREGISTER HERE \nQuestions about this event?\nEmail Rev. SUMMARY:Chrism Mass and Renewal of Ordination Vows
DESCRIPTION:Bishop White invites the clergy of the Diocese of Southern Ohio to gather together on the Tuesday of Holy Week for our annual Eucharist\, renewing ordination vows together and blessing the chrism oil used throughout the diocese in the next year. \nThe Chrism Mass highlights the ministry we share together; a bishop’s ministry is extended symbolically by the chrism oil that will be used in baptism in each faith community of our diocese over the next year. In praying together the renewal of our vows\, we’re reminded of the commitments made to God and God’s Beloved Community at the time of ordination. \nClergy are invited to vest for the service wearing choir dress (black cassock and white surplice) with white stoles. A group photo will be taken afterward. \n10:00 am Optional fellowship time\n11:00 am Mass and anointing\n12:30 pm Lunch \nRegistration deadline is March 17. REGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Holy Monday Service of Prayer & Public Witness
DESCRIPTION:Responding to the Presiding Bishop’s call for public worship on the Monday of Holy Week\, Bishop White invites the Dioceses of Ohio and Southern Ohio to a service of prayer and public witness inside the rotunda at the Ohio Statehouse. \nHoly Week draws Christians into the story of Jesus’ final days—days marked by courage\, confrontation with injustice\, and a steadfast commitment to love in the face of fear and violence. In this moment in our common life\, many feel the weight of division\, hostility\, and rising extremism in public life. As people of faith\, we gather not to deepen those divisions but to bear witness to another way. \nThrough prayer\, song\, and presence in the public square\, we will offer a visible reminder that the Gospel calls Christians to stand for human dignity\, mercy\, and peace. In a time when fear and anger so often dominate the conversation\, this is an opportunity for the church to proclaim that love guides the way. \nBishop White will officiate and Erika Mueller (Trinity\, Capitol Square) will lead us in song. \nMonday\, March 30\,12:15 pm \nThe Ohio Statehouse\nIn the Rotunda \n1 Capitol Sq\,\nColumbus\, OH 43215 \nRSVPs are not required. \nQuestions about this event? \nContact Sarah Beegle\, executive assistant to Bishop White\, at sbeegle@diosohio.org.

SUMMARY:No King but the King of Kings: Palm Processions to No Kings Rallys
DESCRIPTION:As Christians who observe Palm Sunday\, we recognize the difference between earthly kingdoms (good or bad) and the Kingdom of Heaven\, whose ruler is our Triune God. When we call out “Hosanna” we are calling out to God\, “Lord Save Us!!” The root of this word\, “Hosanna\,” is the same word that gives us the Name of Jesus\, the one who saves. And so\, on this day of palms\, we see that God answers our cries by sending us the divine Word incarnate\, Jesus Christ\, who alone can save us from ourselves and the time of trial. \nIt is part of our liturgical tradition to march in the public square on Palm Sunday to call attention to the Kingship of our Savior. All are invited to join into a demonstration of Christian Love a day early. Gather one hour prior to the rally for prayer and organizing. In Cincinnati\, meet at Christ Church Cathedral at noon (rally 1-3 pm) and in Columbus\, meet at Trinity on Capitol Square at 3 pm (rally 4 to 6 pm). Bring palms\, processional crosses\, thuribles\, acolyte torches\, robes/vestments\, banners\, signs\, a Sharpie marker\, telephone\, weather appropriate clothing\, good shoes and a water bottle. The liturgical color is red. \nFor more information\, contact the Rev. Chris Slane at rev.cslane@icloud.com.

SUMMARY:LGBTQ+ Summit/Retreat
DESCRIPTION:In a world that often expects our silence or our sorrow\, LGBTQ+ Episcopalians and their allies are invited to gather for our second annual diocesan LGBTQ+ retreat\, a weekend of Defiant Queer Joy. \nExploring our theme\, Unbounded and Radiant: Defiant Joy for the Queer Follower of Christ\, we will examine and reclaim a truth as old as the empty tomb: that our very existence is a living testimony to the Paschal Mystery. This retreat offers a celebration of the unique ways the LGBTQ+ community mirrors the movement from the shadows of the cross to the brilliance of new life. \nThe Rev. Julia Joyce-Miesse\, rector serving St. Luke’s\, Granville\, will serve as our chaplain for the weekend with music led by Anny Stevens-Gleason\, minister for congregational development at Church of the Redeemer\, Hyde Park and member of the diocesan liturgical commission. Our time together will culminate in a celebratory Eucharist\, Bishop Kristin White celebrating. \nTogether\, we’ll create a sacred space for fellowship and teaching\, rest and play\, and further form connection with one another as fertile ground from which a revolutionary hope springs forth. Join us as we embody the truth that our joy is not just a feeling—it is a sacred\, defiant act of faith that invites the whole world into a deeper understanding of God’s transformative love. \nMarch 27-28\, 2026 \nFriday\n4 pm Check-in opens\n6 pm Dinner \nSaturday\n3:30 pm Closing Eucharist with Bishop White\n5 pm Departure \nCost \n$50/person for commuters\n$75/person for a double (shared) room\n$125/person for a single room \nScholarship assistance is available. \nWe hope to include everyone that wants to join us for the LGBTQ+ retreat.
SUMMARY:Southwest Regional Staff Work Day
DESCRIPTION:In 2025\, we took important steps in reinvigorating connections across churches at the regional level in the Diocese of Southern Ohio. We experimented with Regional Staff Work Days\, in which diocesan staff traveled together to sites around the diocese\, increasing access to in-person meetings and fellowship with local leaders. At the same time\, a task force met and gathered with lay and clergy leaders for conversation and input about the ways we gather across geography\, a process that resulted in the creation of four new regions. \nAs a continuation of that investment in accessibility and connection\, the diocesan staff will once again hit the road in 2026\, offering opportunities to meet\, learn\, celebrate\, and connect beyond the walls of your own church. \nIn each region of the diocese\, the diocesan staff will be present for Staff Work Days\, offering the opportunity for drop-in fellowship and appointments with local leaders\, reducing barriers for face-to-face connection. \nSouthwest Region: Friday\, March 6 \n10-11 am – Drop-in Fellowship Hour with light snacks and coffee.\n11-3 pm – Staff available for pre-made appointments. \nNo RSVP required to join the Regional Staff Days\, but please make an appointment if wanting to meet with staff. \nSchedule with staff member \nPlease note: The Leadership Day originally scheduled for Saturday\, March 7 has been cancelled.

Each first Tuesday of the month\, we gather\, pray\, and discuss a book the hosts believe will bring us closer to the dream God has for us as God’s beloved children. Our January\, February\, and March book is The Church Cracked Open by the Rev. Stephanie Spellers! This book will help us put our last book\, Homegoing\, in an Episcopal context. Whether you read Homegoing or not\, please join us to read this important book. Request a complimentary copy of the book in paperback\, kindle\, or audiobook when you register. \nRegister here. \nReading the book is not mandatory for this book study! Whether you read a few pages or the whole book\, our conversation will be better with you there. Just prepare for spoilers! We’ll talk about the book—our favorite parts\, where we see ourselves\, and what this book has to do with us\, our faith communities\, and our diocese.

Olivia Hamilton\, missioner for lifelong formation\, at ohamilton@diosohio.org.

SUMMARY:Clergy Conference
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, the clergy of the diocese gather for a few days of renewal\, learning\, and strengthening our shared ministry. This year’s conference will focus on conflict resolution through the lens of Jesus’ life and teaching: exploring faithful ways to engage disagreement\, disruption\, and transformation in our congregations and communities. From the prophetic act of turning over the tables to practices of reconciliation and repair\, clergy will build practical skills for navigating conflict with courage\, clarity\, and pastoral care. \nOur guest facilitator is the Rev. Laura Eberly. Laura is a vocational deacon\, community organizer\, and trainer around conflict resolution. She currently serves as clergy-in-charge at Santiago St. James Episcopal Church—a small\, bilingual\, working class community living out its gospel call in Oakland\, CA. Whether she is leading Santiago’s heartfelt Coffee Conmigo conversations\, College for Congregational Development trainings\, or workshops with her DEI consulting practice\, Laura’s work is to tend the nets. She is attentive to the ties that bind us and to how we can build infrastructure to support and nourish them. Laura lives with her wife and chosen family in Concord\, CA\, where she enjoys hiking\, gardening\, and trying to convince her two young children they enjoy those things too. \nOur time together will also include dedicated time for conversation with Bishop White\, including a Fireside Chat\, checking in with one another on our shared ministry and the bishop’s expectations and hopes for clergy leadership in this season of our life together. \nFebruary 24-26\, 2026\nArrive by 12:30 on Tuesday\nDepart around 12:30 on Thursday \nOpen to all priests\, deacons\, and bishops canonically resident or actively serving DSO congregations. Registration deadline Feb. 5. \nREGISTER HERE \nQuestions about this event?\nContact Sarah Simko\, executive assistant to the canon to the ordinary\, at ssimko@diosohio.org.

SUMMARY:In-person Safe Church training
DESCRIPTION:Safe Church training helps us protect children\, youth\, and vulnerable adults by promoting healthy boundaries\, accountability\, and care. It is a practical way to live out our Baptismal Covenant by respecting the dignity of every human being and striving for justice and peace. \nThe training also equips clergy\, staff\, and volunteers to build trust and respond faithfully and appropriately if concerns arise\, helping our congregations remain safe and welcoming places for all. \nThose who prefer an in-person learning experience are invited to attend the daylong training at Procter Camp and Conference Center on February 19. We’ll begin at 10 am and conclude by 3 pm\, with a break for lunch. Participation in this training completes the requirement for service on vestries\, diocesan leadership\, and most other ministry roles. \nTraining is available for adults and teens over 16 years old\, with a responsible adult. Cost is $10\, which will be collected the day of training. Registration deadline is Feb. 14 \nREGISTER HERE \nQuestions about this event?\nContact the Rev. SUMMARY:ECM Round 1 grant cycle opens
DESCRIPTION:Episcopal Community Ministries (ECM)\, our diocese’s outreach arm\, offers grants to multiple congregation-affiliated outreach ministries\, including food banks\, community gardens\, community meals\, tutoring programs\, human trafficking victim support services and medical debt relief. \nECM desires to support our congregations that support their neighbors as reflected in ECM’s purpose statement: \nThe mission of the Episcopal Community Ministries is to inspire and support each other in the living out of our Baptismal Covenant through active\, generous\, and committed congregations and their outward looking ministries. \nThe ECM Committee is pleased to announce the dates of the two grant cycles for 2026: \n\nRound I: Application opens on February 1 and closes on March 1.\nRound II: Application opens on June 1 and closes on July 1.\n\nThe following are some of the basic criteria to apply: \n\nCongregational Commitment – the requesting congregation must demonstrate committed and impactful support of the ministry both financially and through the active and significant participation of its parishioners.\nThe Congregation is in “good standing” as determined by canon. This status includes being current in Mission Share contributions\, and having up‐to‐date submissions of the Parochial Report\, Diocesan Annual Reporting Form\, and parish audit.\nThe ministry to be funded addresses a vital need in the community.\n\nECM grants are funded by an annual draw from the Blanchard Memorial Endowment Fund established by the trustees of the diocese\, and by donations from congregations and individuals. Every dollar donated to ECM goes to local church outreach ministries helping their neighbors in need. \nTo apply for a grant\, learn more about the grant criteria\, and become more familiar with ECM\, please visit diosohio.org/episcopal-community-ministries.

SUMMARY:Holy Trinity\, Kenwood closing Eucharist
DESCRIPTION:Please join us as we celebrate the closing Eucharist at Holy Trinity\, Kenwood and mark our gratitude for its impact on the community and our diocese. Earlier this year\, we announced that the leadership of Holy Trinity discerned to close. We anticipate that becoming official by act of diocesan convention in November. \nAs part of the service\, we will celebrate the many generations that have been formed by Word and Sacrament at Holy Trinity\, break bread around the altar\, and secularize the sacred space. Clergy who have historically been involved with Holy Trinity are invited to vest and process wearing white stoles. A reception with light refreshments will follow the liturgy.

SUMMARY:Beloved Community Book Study: Homegoing
DESCRIPTION:Our beloved community book study aims to foster a sense of community as we share and discuss ideas from seminal works of non-fiction and\, now\, fiction. By rooting our individual stories and local stories in our shared scriptural stories\, we aim to follow Jesus more closely and build the beloved community in the Diocese of Southern Ohio. \nOur Fall Book Study will take on Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. \n\nThe unforgettable New York Times best seller begins with the story of two half-sisters\, separated by forces beyond their control: one sold into slavery\, the other married to a British slaver. Homegoing traces the generations of family who follow\, as their destinies lead them through two continents and three hundred years of history\, each life indelibly drawn\, as Gyasi reveals the legacy of slavery in light of the present day. Effia and Esi are born into different villages in eighteenth-century Ghana. Effia is married off to an Englishman and lives in comfort in the palatial rooms of Cape Coast Castle. Unbeknownst to Effia\, her sister\, Esi\, is imprisoned beneath her in the castle’s dungeons\, sold with thousands of others into the Gold Coast’s booming slave trade\, and shipped off to the United States. One thread of Homegoing follows Effia’s descendants through centuries of warfare in Ghana\, as the Fante and Asante nations wrestle with the slave trade and British colonization. The other thread follows Esi and her children from the plantations of the South to the Civil War and the Great Migration\, from the coal mines of Pratt City\, Alabama\, to the jazz clubs and dope houses of twentieth-century Harlem\, and continues through to the present day. Homegoing makes history visceral\, capturing with singular and stunning immediacy how the memory of captivity is inscribed in the soul of a nation. \nThis book study gathers over three evenings from 7-8 pm: October 7\, November 3\, and December 2.This online gathering takes place on Zoom. Register. \nThere is no registration deadline\, however\, if requesting to be mailed a copy of the book\, please register no later than September 30.

\nThis book study gathers over three evenings from 7-8 pm: October 7\, November 3\, and December 1.This online gathering takes place on Zoom. Register. \nThere is no registration deadline\, however\, if requesting to be mailed a copy of the book\, please register no later than September 30.

SUMMARY:Mini CCD
DESCRIPTION:Join the wider diocese for a day of learning and encountering tools for congregations of all sizes\, locations\, and conditions to be more healthy\, faithful\, and effective as they live out God’s call. This Mini College for Congregational Development (or Mini-CCD) is an opportunity in particular for clergy and lay leaders who have not yet attended the week-long intensive. \nThis Mini-CCD will focus on tools for congregations to talk about and identify their unique purpose as a faith community and how they’re called to be local expressions of the body of Christ in the neighborhoods in which they’ve been planted. Participants will learn several core models of the college and engage in meaningful conversations\, both with participants from their own congregations and with leaders from churches across the diocese. Individuals are welcome to attend on their own\, but we highly encourage folks to participate together as a team with other members from their congregations. \nRecognizing that the week-long CCD experience is not accessible to everyone\, whether due to scheduling conflicts or participant size limits\, Mini-CCD is one way that we are seeking to integrate these teachings more broadly into a shared vocabulary for the diocese. In addition\, this is also an opportunity for those who are curious about attending the week-long intensive in 2026 to get a taste of what the week might be like. Those who did attend this summer’s week-long intensive are welcome for a refresher of material and to bring along additional members of their congregation. \nSchedule \n9:30 am – Arrivals\n10:00 am – Program Begins\nMid-day – Lunch\n3:00 pm – Program Concludes \nRegistration \nThere is no cost to participate in the Mini-CCD. Lunch is included. Please register no later than the extended deadline of October 12.
