SUMMARY:Introduction to Lay Preaching Program
DESCRIPTION:The Lay Preacher Training Program will run from Fall 2024 through September 2025\, with monthly sessions taking place on Zoom and in-person. An introduction to the program will be held on Saturday\, October 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Procter Center. There is no cost to attend. Register here. \nOur training curriculum is a new offering of the Episcopal Preaching Foundation\, offering comprehensive and in-depth training in the theory and practice of preaching to form effective\, confident\, and passionate licensed lay preachers for our church. The course includes regular study of scripture and theology\, exegesis strategies\, and practical homiletics. The cornerstone of the program is preaching feedback\, both to peers within the cohort and regularly\, back in your home congregation. \nThe specific dates and locations (Zoom or in-person) will be determined according to the group’s availability and needs. Participants should expect to meet about twice monthly\, either in-person or on Zoom. \nThe cost to participate in the year-long program is $500/person. Applications are open now and will remain open after the October 12 introduction session. Join the camp community on August 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. for an old-fashioned Ice Cream Social\, some camp-themed lawn games\, fishing\, boating\, and a free concert by singer-songwriter Mark Currey\, with special guest The Procter Band. This event is free for all ages and is a great opportunity for everyone to taste and see the Good News of Summer Camp at Procter.

Do you want to explore further an interest in being a deacon or priest? \nIn our diocese\, one enters discernment for ordained ministry by attending the Explorers’ Retreat\, organized by the Commission on Ministry (CoM). This year’s retreat will take place January 27\, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Procter. SUMMARY:Explorers' Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Are you discerning a call to ordained ministry? Do you want to explore further that pull you feel to be a deacon or priest? \nIn our Diocese\, one enters discernment for ordained ministry by attending the Explorers’ Retreat\, organized by the Commission on Ministry (CoM). The Explorers’ Retreat has two parts; Part 1 is a two-hour Information Session\, held on Saturday\, November 12\, from 10 AM to noon\, by Zoom. Part 2 is an overnight at Procter Camp and Conference Center\, scheduled for January 27-28. Note that the November 12 session is a prerequisite for the January Explorers’ Retreat. \nThe Jan 27-28 Explorers’ Retreat will run from 5 p.m. Friday until about 4 p.m. Saturday and include an overnight stay at Procter. This session is limited to Explorers who have submitted an application to attend\, including a Faith Story and their priest’s endorsement. (To be clear\, neither the Explorer’s priest nor spouse attend the Explorers’ Retreat.) \nRegister for the retreat here. There is a $100 fee for the Explorer’s Retreat. \nIf you have questions or need more information\, contact Sarah Beegle\, Assistant to the Canons\, at sbeegle@diosohio.org or Robin Holland\, incoming Chair of the Commission on Ministry\, at rholl10554@aol.com.
