As the winter storm bore down on Southern Ohio Sunday afternoon, the people of All Saints, Washington Court House, were concerned about their neighbors in need.
“We know of at least eight people who are probably in need, but they are very difficult to locate in the weather and the places that they would usually seek food help are closed,” said the Rev. Warren Huestis, priest-in-charge at All Saints. “The local shelters are overnight only.”
The church made the decision to open the doors as a 24-hour warming shelter. And as word got out, donations poured in.

“We have had wonderful response from the community with donations of food, supplies, and bedding,” said Huestis.
One individual took advantage of the shelter on Sunday, but by Monday the news had spread, and the church sheltered four neighbors from the cold.
Huestis shared this scripture passage on the church’s Facebook page, “Isaiah 58:7 says ‘Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin?’”
Others in the community showed the congregation their appreciation as well. After spending the day removing snow for local veterans, folks from the Military Chow Hall food pantry and the US Veterans Motorcycle Club swung by the church to clear the walkways and parking lot of the church.
“We are so grateful for all the donations,” said Huestis. “This truly is a community coming together.”
