Pastries with Pauli – A Symposium Honoring the Life of Pauli Murray

On Saturday, November 8, the community is invited to spend the morning in conversation and reflection at “Pastries with Pauli”, a symposium honoring the life and legacy of civil rights icon, lawyer, activist, poet, and Episcopal priest Pauli Murray. Hosted at St. Andrews Episcopal Church (1809 Rutland Ave.), the morning will begin at 9:30 am with coffee, pastries, and fellowship, followed by a one-hour program featuring:
- Fr. Christopher Slane – Overview of Pauli Murray’s life and work
- David Boyles – Chair of the Cincinnati Bar Association’s LGBTQ+ Interest Group
- The Rev. Lesley Jones and the Rev. Derek Terry – Personal reflections on Pauli Murray from Black, queer, and ministerial perspectives
- A sneak peek performance from Sharisse Vernelle Santos, soloist featured in the afternoon concert
Event Schedule – “Pastries with Pauli”
9:30 – 10:00 AM – Gathering with Lite Bites and Beverages
10:00 – 11:00 AM – Program of talks and music
The symposium serves as a prelude to the 4 pm concert, “Rebel With a Cause: Sincerely Yours, Pauli Murray”, presented at House of Joy Christian Ministries (3220 Central Parkway). This powerful musical portrait, composed by Steve Milloy and performed by the World House Choir, brings Murray’s words and spirit to life through chorus, soloists, narrator, and instrumental ensemble.
