A Celebration of Women: Lifting up women composers

Taking place during International Women’s History month, this event highlights and supports the work of women composers. Although historically marginalized as creators, this concert hopes to bring to audiences a wide variety of music that spans across hundreds of years, right to the very beginning of recorded Western music. Professional group Heri et Hodie will sing chant from medieval times. Community choir Musica Sacra will present a portion of a newly commissioned work that premiered just six months ago. Singers from feminist choir MUSE will also present a set. Other special guests from the Greater Cincinnati area will be joining and spotlighting their repertoire by women.
A freewill offering will benefit Lydia’s House, working to provide safe housing, holistic care, and supportive community, walking with families from crisis to stability. In 2013 Lydia’s House began as a small residence for women and their children experiencing homelessness, since that time it has grown to include an affordable housing building, a second building in May 2022, and a large shelter expansion in 2024.
