This is our Story, This is our Song

150th Anniversary Celebration of the Diocese of Southern Ohio

Join Bishop White and Episcopalians across Southern Ohio and beyond as we celebrate 150 years of mission and ministry as a diocese on Saturday, September 27, at the Procter Center. Our time together will honor our legacy, foster connection, and speak truth about our shared history.

During this day-long celebration, we’ll enjoy fun camp activities like hay rides and boating, we’ll share a delicious meal together with food from Sweets & Meats BBQ Food Truck, we’ll worship together with incredible music and contributions from across our beloved diocese. And through it all, we’ll focus on storytelling: our diocesan story and history dug up in a 25 year old time capsule and as collected and shared by the dedicated History & Storytelling Group, our congregational stories and histories, and our own stories — naming and sharing the ways that God shows up in our own lives and calls us ever deeper into relationship with the Creator and with one another.

Get involved

Each congregation is invited to contribute to our worship by bringing a small vial or jar of water from a water source local to you.

This may be a river or creek, a lake or pond, even just what comes out of the faucet.

Our collected waters will be used in the asperging of the congregation during our celebratory Eucharist!

All congregations are invited to sign up to exhibit their parish histories throughout our event! Whether you worked with our History and Storytelling Group in the last couple of years to compile this together, or you’ve done the work on your own, this is an opportunity to share your community’s local legacy and the impact you’ve had as a people of faith.

We could use your help as we gather together to celebrate! Please consider whether you could contribute your gifts in any of the following essential roles:
Wayfinding guides

  • Set up assistance
  • Clean up assistance
  • Flower Guild
  • Greeters and ushers for worship
  • First Aid Tent
  • Procter Alumni Camp Band

All volunteers will receive an event t-shirt as thanks! Just let us know you’re willing to volunteer on your registration form.

Our worship together will be supported in music by an all-diocese Drop-in Choir, directed by Stephen Sollars of St. John’s, Worthington and All Saints, New Albany. We’re looking for singers to help support congregational hymn-singing and to offer an anthem during our Eucharist!

All choir participants must participate in rehearsal from 1:30-2:30 pm.

Reach out to Stephen with any questions.

Please consider posting our flyer in your parish hall and as bulletin inserts.
