African American Native American Connections

The Native American Ministry Council of Christ Church Cathedral will present a workshop focusing on the connections between African Americans and Native Americans on Saturday, February 3 at the Cathedral. Led by the Reverend Brother Simeon Powell, CG (Cherokee/Saponi). There is no charge for the workshop, but reservations are requested to plan for the included lunch.
Brother Powell, (Cherokee/Saponi) and his wife, Anne, are Deacons-in-Residence at St. Augustine Episcopal Church, Rocklin, CA. He is a graduate of the Episcopal School for Deacons, Berkeley, CA. and was ordained in Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, CA. He is the former Archdeacon of the Diocese of the Rio Grande and Episcopal Chaplain for the University of New Mexico. He has been a representative of the Episcopal Church to the Anglican Indigenous Network.
Brother Powell is an advocate for addressing the effects of the Doctrine of Discovery in the Church and authored the Indigenous Lands Acknowledgement Resolution approved by in 2022.
Powell will also preach at Eucharist on Sunday, February 4 at 10 a.m.
