Choral Evensong

Saint Mark’s, Upper Arlington, will offer a service of Choral Evensong, with music by the St. Mark’s Choir, on Sunday, March 5 at 4 p.m. Music will include the Second Service by William Byrd, responses by Bernard Rose, and anthems by Johannes Brahms and Martin Lauridsen. Admission is free. Donations will be gratefully received in support of the Special Music Fund at Saint Mark’s. A reception will follow. All are welcome!

Choral Evensong is a service of sung Evening Prayer that began during the English Reformation of the 1500s. It combines elements from several older evening services that had been prayed daily in monasteries throughout the Middle Ages. The service is contemplative and includes prayers (both spoken and sung), readings from scripture, hymns, and choral anthems.

Saint Mark’s is located at 2151 Dorset Rd in Upper Arlington, across from the Tremont Center shopping center and the Upper Arlington Public Library. Parking is available on the street and in the Tremont Center parking lot.
