Make Me an Instrument of Peace: Building Capacity for Engaging on Tough Topics

In this election season, as heightened division and fear impacts our church communities, how can Episcopalians equip themselves to build and maintain relationships that are fundamental to our common life? This workshop will focus on civil discourse as a critical tool for bridging partisan divides, learning from one another, and creating better solutions for our communities. But what is civil discourse? How does it differ from civility?
Based on the online class created by The Episcopal Church and ChurchNext, we will explore developing individual and community capacity for civil discourse, applying it to public policy conversations, and assessing how civil discourse co-exists with other types of personal and institutional engagement.
This workshop, led by Alan Yarborough of the Episcopal Church’s Office of Government Relations, will focus on civil discourse as a critical tool for bridging partisan divides, learning from one another, and creating better solutions for our communities.
