Partnership helps halal donation reach Mauritanian migrants

Celly Dia, daughter of Amadou Dia, head of the Mauritanian Association.

When Transformations CDC recently received a donation of 24 pounds of halal ground beef, it was able to make use of it thanks to its existing relationship with members of the Muslim community in Cincinnati, who have been helping Guatemalan and Mauritanian migrants pursue Temporary Protected Status in the United States.

The halal beef, along with eggs and tomatoes, was given to the International Center of Greater Cincinnati and the head of the Mauritanian Association. for distribution to families providing emergency shelter for some of the many Mauritanians who have come to Cincinnati in recent months.

“Most are young men who flew to Brazil and literally walked north through many countries to reach the border, fleeing violent racism in their home countries,” says Nancy Sullivan, who serves as director of Transformations CDC and is a member of the Church of Our Saviour/La Iglesia de Nuestro Salvador.
