Registration for EfM: Education for Ministry is now open

Classes begin in September

Education for Ministry (EfM) is a four-year program of group study intended to develop a richer foundation for life and ministry. EfM covers Hebrew Scripture, the Christian Testament, Church History, and Theology. The program was developed by the School of Theology at the University of the South and is sponsored by the Diocese of Southern Ohio.

One year of EfM consists of 36 sessions that meet weekly and include discussion of assigned readings, shared reflection, and meditative worship. Participants enroll one year at a time with no obligation to complete all four years. EfM classes are comprised of no less than six and no more than 12 members.  Annual cost is $350 per person, plus books. A limited number of scholarships are available and assistance can be offered in finding previously used books.

EfM groups often have participants from several parishes or non-Episcopal churches, giving discussions and reflections an ecumenical flavor. If you already completed EfM, you are welcome to return and re-take any year you wish. If you started EfM but did not complete it, you can usually pick up where you left off.

If there is enough interest, a diocesan Zoom-based class will begin in September, meeting on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Contact the Rev. Cameron O’Riley, EfM diocesan coordinator, at cameron.oriley@christchurchglendale.org or 513.771.1544 to find a class in your area, or for more information.

What Participants are saying about EFM:

“An incredible sojourn of faith that caused me to reconsider my core beliefs. I have a deeper appreciation for the books of the Old Testament.” Myke

“An eye-opening exploration of the Scriptures through a variety of viewpoints where everyone’s input and experience are valued.” Tricia

“One of the benefits of EFM is hearing other people’s responses to a reading or a question and realizing that either I had that same thought or that I’ve never thought about it that way. Either way it is a shared moment of growth. It’s rewarding to learn with others.” Larry

“EFM is: readings that challenge (including that pesky Old Testament), great discussions, a chance to forge relationships with old and new friends, a fun and helpful mentor.  I’m already looking forward to next year.” Helene
