Second Call to the 151st Diocesan Convention

Love Divine, All Loves Excelling

Delegates, Clergy, and People of Southern Ohio,

We are so looking forward to our upcoming convention! We’ll gather on Friday, November 14 for a day of learning, fellowship, and worshipping together and again on Saturday, November 15 to conduct the business of our diocese.

In this, our Second Call to Convention, we share some important reminders as well as the first edition of our Digital Convention Booklet, where you can find all materials for our time together: a schedule, workshop descriptions, and worship bulletins. The booklet also contains all business items: resolutions, nominations, and reports.

Yours in Christ,

The Digital Convention Booklet

All materials for our convention including schedule, map, resolutions, nominations, reports, workshop descriptions, worship, and more are or will be available in our Digital Convention Booklet.

Please ensure you will have access to this booklet during our convention, whether bringing a device (like a smartphone, tablet, or laptop) or by printing ahead of time. Printed copies will not be available at registration. The final version of the booklet is expected to be available on November 7.

All information, including access to this booklet, is also available on our website, at diosohio.org/151st-annual-convention

Plenary & Workshops

The elements described in the Rule of St. Benedict—stability, obedience, and conversion of life—provide a framework for approaching the spiritual life of both individuals and our faith communities.

We will begin our 151st Convention with our plenary, “Divine Love in a World of Change,” hosted by our bishop, the Rt. Rev. Kristin Uffelman White, and our keynote speaker, the Rt. Rev. Carrie Schofield-Broadbent. They’ll share with us the Benedictine Life Model as offered through the College for Congregational Development, before breaking out into three sets of workshop sessions.

Workshop descriptions are available in the Digital Convention Booklet.

Like the whole convention, Friday’s workshops, plenary, and worship are open to all, regardless of whether you’re an elected delegate. Join us!

Convention Eucharist

Our Convention Eucharist with the bishop’s annual address to the diocese will take place Friday evening at 5 pm.

WORSHIP BULLETINS
The worship bulletins for Eucharist and all other services will be included in an updated version of the convention booklet ahead of convention. Attendees should ensure they have a device to view their bulletins or print at home ahead of time.

CLERGY VESTING
Clergy are invited to vest and process wearing cassock and surplice, red stoles.

(NEW!) DROP-IN CHOIR
Stephen Sollars (St. John’s, Worthington) will lead a pick-up choir at convention. If you’d like to be a part of this group, sign up here with your voice part. There will be a short rehearsal ahead of the Friday Eucharist. Details will be sent to those who sign up.

Reminder: Photo Slideshow

To share the story of ministry in our local faith communities, all congregations and affiliated organizations are invited to contribute up to ten photos for our convention slideshow.

Final selection of photos will be determined by the communications office of the diocese. Please avoid submitting photos that:

  • depict only inanimate objects or buildings – we want to see people in ministry!
  • are blurry – only in-focus, high quality photos will show up well when enlarged by the projector.
  • show faces of people seeking our outreach services – respecting the dignity of every human being means we can’t assume strangers’ consent in having their photo shared, especially when seeking help.
  • include any overlaid text – just send the photo, please don’t add any captions or any kind of text in the image; we’ll add it!
  • are gallery-style – one photo at a time, please!

Contact Canon Katie Forsyth with any questions. Please submit your photos no later than October 31.

Virtual Attendees

For clergy and lay delegates who have chosen to participate virtually through Zoom, you will receive two emails no less than three days prior to convention.

  • Zoom link – this email will come directly from Zoom. It will have the link to enter the Zoom meeting. The link will not be posted anywhere on the website.
  • Voting Credentials – this email will come from Canon Julie Murray. It will contain the voter id and voter key needed to use our voting software.

Please do not wait until the morning of convention to check to see if you have everything you need! If you have not received these emails by November 12, please contact us at convention@diosohio.org.
