Explorers Day
February 21, 2026 from 9-4 pm at Procter Center
Are you experiencing a sense of God’s call to ordained ministry? Do you want to further explore that nudge you feel to be a deacon or priest?
Attending the Explorer’s Day, organized by the Commission on Ministry (COM), is the first step to entering the discernment process for ordained ministry. Explorers attend alongside their parish priest (or in the absence of the priest, their senior warden or other leader).
The Explorers’ Day will provide
- an introduction to our diocesan Explorer Discernment Process (pre-postulancy)
- basic information about the steps to ordination
- next steps for beginning the process
- sharing about various lay ministries
- Bible study and theological reflection about ministry
Join us! Take this first, courageous step into your wondering about vocation and call in God’s church.
Requirements for Education & Formation
Please consider the following as you discern whether this is the right step and time for you:
In order to be ordained to the priesthood, candidates must have completed a bachelor’s degree (any field) and a three-year residential M.Div. program through an authorized Episcopal seminary. Those already holding an M.Div. from a non-Episcopal setting will require extra formation, such as a one-year Anglican Studies program. Extra formation may be required depending on the person.
In order to be ordained to the diaconate, candidates must have completed our three-year diocesan Deacon School program. Extra formation may be required depending on the person.
We provide this information to be transparent about the formation commitments for ordination, not to direct senses of call. The COM and bishop encourage all Explorers to discuss formation with your congregation’s clergy. Sometimes God calls us to seemingly inconvenient things and we work together, in community, to discern meaningful paths forward at the right time.
