Introduction Event for Lay Preacher Training
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12th at PROCTER CENTER
Responding to the call for renewed opportunities for training lay leaders, especially in our congregations without consistent clergy presence, the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio will restart its lay preacher training program this fall.
An introductory event is planned for Saturday, October 12th, from 10-2 pm at Procter Center for an overview of the program, a taste of what training will look like, and an invitation to continue with the full year-long training program. Participants who choose to go on through the program will need to apply and have their rector’s (or other authority) endorsement to continue. A summary of the full program is included below. All those who plan to participate in the full program must attend this free introductory event.

ABOUT THE LAY PREACHING PROGRAM
The training program will run from Fall 2024 through September 2025, with bi-monthly sessions taking place on Zoom and in-person.
Our training curriculum is a new offering of the Episcopal Preaching Foundation, offering comprehensive and in-depth training in the theory and practice of preaching to form effective, confident, and passionate licensed lay preachers for our church.
The course includes regular study of scripture and theology, exegesis strategies, and practical homiletics. The cornerstone of the program is preaching feedback, both to peers within the cohort and regularly, back in your home congregation.
The specific dates and locations (Zoom or in-person) will be determined according to the group’s availability and needs. Participants should expect to meet about twice monthly, either in-person or on Zoom.
The cost to participate in the year-long program is $500/person. Applications are open now and will remain open after the October 12 introduction session. The deadline to apply for the full program is October 21.
